Saturday 2nd XI
Tom Stock Member profile

Captain : Tom Stock

Opening batsman, energetic fielder, very very occasional bowler and honorary club treasurer.
2nd XI captain

Nick named Tim Stick for no real reason….
Sam Sweeting Member profile

Vice Captain : Sam Sweeting

Top order batsman with the ability to change the tempo of the innings as tactics dictate. Some have likened him to a young Mike Gatting although he likens himself to Freddie Flintoff (its all in the knees apparently)

Very occaisional off spinner and sometime seam bowler.

In the field "Sweetie" has made the gully position his own with lightning quick reflexes and inimitable presence, which later lead him to keep wicket in a few games for both Ongar 2's and the Ongar Sunday Team
Players
Steve Adcock Member profile Steve Adcock
Right hand batsman. Right arm slow bowler.
War horse Adders is top class cricketer despite his aches and pains.
An explosive top order batsman who can take any attack apart. He has a safe pair of hand in the field and an intelligent cricket brain. Can often be heard to say "I'm too old for this"
Joe Curtis Member profile - no photo available Joe Curtis
Another ex-old parks who has recently stepped up to be 1st XI wicket-keeper.

Solid pair of hands and when needed steps up with the bat so score vital runs.
Also bowls off spin
Peter Ellis Member profile Peter Ellis
Veteran Right arm opening bowler. Right handed batsman.

Much like a Southern version of Darren Gough Pete will always give 100% and will run in and bowl all day if you asked him to.

Can be heard from fine leg doing his market trader impersonation with classics such as "bim-bam-boozle" "one brings two", "send him back now" and "been here too long". Pete believes that no matter how bad the situation Ongar can fight back and win.

An underrated lower middle order batsman who can hold up an end when necessary.
Rob Fisher Member profile Rob Fisher
6ft 7 Rob is a new member to Ongar in 2008. As a bowler Rob has loads of potential as new dimension to the second eleven attack and looks like becoming a fixture in the Ongar team
Ian Groves Member profile Ian Groves
Left arm swing bowler Ian bowls good old fashioned full length seamers. With the ability to probe away and mix up in and out swing Ian keeps batsmen honest.

Despite generally batting down the order as a qualified umpire Ian spends more time in the middle than most of the Ongar batsmen.
Jack Groves Member profile - no photo available Jack Groves
Classical left handed batsman Jack stepped up to the twos in late 2007 and has laid down a marker for the 2008 season with a classic unbeaten fifty at Old Southendians. With a sound technique and a heavy bat Jack is able to occupy the increase and then attack the bad balls.

Mario Picceri Member profile Mario Picceri
Left arm swing bowler.
Mario is an italian South African....confused?
A useful swing bowler who gets wickets at crucial times. A genuine number 11 who wouldn't know one end of a bat from the other and bought his last bat from eBay for £1.00 ! A really nice guy who smokes cigarettes that look like matchmakers and drives multicoloured cars.
Sean Russell Member profile - no photo available Sean Russell
Just moved to Essex after graduating from the University of Bath.
Wicket-keeper/batsman.
Scored 77 on his first outing for Ongar CC (2nd XI) and was swiftly promoted to 1st XI.
Chris Sims Member profile - no photo available Chris Sims
Right hand batsman. Broke into the twoose in 2001 and contributed
some useful runs. Scored his maiden century against Woodford Green. Upright and powerful on both the front and the back foot but rather impatient at times. The youngster in the camp and gets the brunt of the mickey taking but always takes it in good spirit. ITMD !!!
Paul Stolworthy Member profile - no photo available Paul Stolworthy
Tall Paul is an integral part of the team. Strikes the ball very well and is handy with the ball.

Scored maidan 100 for the 2's in 2009 to win the match against local rivals Epping
Social secretary
Mark Suker Member profile Mark Suker
Formerly 3rd XI Captain, club legend 'Sukks' broke into the 2nd XI in 2007 and will be looking to cement his place as a accumulator of runs at the top of the order.

As a specialist slip fielder Sukks has taken many a important catch, most notably the one handed stunner against Epping away in 2007 that set Ongar on their way to victory.

Mark bowls some rarely seen but useful off breaks and will be looking to unleash these later in the season as the pitches harden and detioriate.
