Woodford Green v Ongar Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 18 Jul 2009 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Back after a long absence..... its the 2nd XI Match Report, hurrah!

Ongar made their way to fellow strugglers Woodford Green hoping to win and at the very least hoping to deprive Ross of yet another big ton!

As always seems to be the case the wicket was second nearest the Woodford High Road and looked rather green. Feeling rather bullish (and knowing that they'd scored more in their last innings at SOS than WG had scored in their last two combined against SOS & Orsett) Ongar fancied a bowl Sadly tails always seems to fail and Tom found himself putting his pads on rather sooner than hoped.

Makeshift opener Sam Sweeting joined Tom in the middle and the two set about providing Ongar a solid start. Tom was looking dangerous and knew that 250+ was the target and so set about punishing anything short and wide while Mr Sweeting applied his DJP approved batting technique in order to play the holding role.

Tom racked up the boundaries and in one over (having retreated to the pavilion to put his box on) went from 38 to 50. Sam went first though after seeing off the openers as he was bowled by the change bowler Avla Malcom who used the slope in the wicket to induce Sam to play down the wrong line for a solid 13.

The wicket brought Micky Ayres to the crease. Micky immediately looked like he'd never left as he settled into the crease and started to play himself with his trademark defensive solidity and dabs in to the spaces vacated by fielders.
Tom fell next as an attempted flick off his legs cannoned off his raised back foot on to the stumps for 60.

Matt Jarvis at number 4 struggled with the slow pace of the pitch and having creamed one beautiful straight drive chopped on to his own stumps. At this stage it seemed that Ongars good start was going to be wasted but in came Matthew Adcock.

Matt had been instructed to play himself in and then hit the ball in to the road and bushes. Having given himself 3 balls to play himself in, Matt played and missed at his fourth and then creamed the next for 4.

Matt & Micky were like chalk and cheese but the partnership worked magnificantly as Matt struck 4,6,4,4,6 for his first 5 scoring strokes while Micky rotated the strike and picked up quick singles whenever possible. Matt's second six was a glorious pull over the trees and in to the High Road. The trajectory was such that having bounced in the middle of the road it bounced over a double decker. Bowlers came and went (with the WG skipper deciding to spare himself from the onslaught after just 2 overs) as Matt went on his merry way.

In the end Matt went in specatuclar style as he skied one behind attempting his 3rd consecutive six in an over from Babu Makadam.
