Ongar Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Belhus on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn

Match report It was a sunny afternoon and perfect conditions at The Lane as Ongar played host to Belhus CC for the first time in the SNEL. Belhus won the toss and elected to have first use of an excellent looking wicket.

They made a good start reaching 44 from 12 overs before Jamie trapped Winter LBW for 19. The impressive Didd was joined by his skipper Day and the pair marched to 116 from 21 overs before Didd(65) was caught behind by senior Adcock off the bowling of junior Adcock. But the day belonged to Day as he notched up a magnificent 103 before finally being stumped by Adders off the bowling of Rakesh. In between time Blake picked up a wicket, caught behind by Adders and Rakesh also claimed a wicket by the same method. All in all a hugely impressive display behind the stumps by Adders with a hand in 4 of the 5 wickets to fall, plus his constant chat also served to keep the fielders on their toes. I believe he even managed a smile at one point. All of the Ongar bowlers had struggled to make any impression on a glorious batting wicket, even Blake could only manage 1-97 from his 22 overs. Jamie produced a fierce opening spell and didnt quite end up with the figures his efforts deserved at 1-46 from 9 overs. Good pace also from Madcock, 1-42 from 7 overs and a much improved spell from Rakesh with 2-43 from his 9 overs. Belhus declaring their innings in the 47th over on 231-5. A total that contained only 5 extras, 1 no ball, 1 wide, 2 leg byes and 1 bye!

After an excellent tea by Coughlan Caterers. Ongar skipper Rakesh decided that the innings would need momentum from the start and promoted Madcock to be the new opening partner for brother Sam. Adcock and Adcock made 20 before Sam was bowled by the impressive Harber for 2. Madcock in the meantime had decided that he rather liked his new pinch hitting role and promptly smashed the Belhus attack out of the ground (quite literally on occasions) as he raced to 50 from only 28 balls faced. Belhus, were quite understandably concerned but unfortunately he holed out at long on, having scored 57 from a total of 65!
Stick (20) was next to go, caught behind and Rakesh(17) played an injudicious shot and was caught at cover right on the last hour mark. So Ongar required 124 from the last 20 overs on a good track and a lighting fast outfield, this was definitely a possibility. Jas(32) was looking good, after his 2 week lay off before he was bowled by Harber and Blake(44) looked as though he would see
Ongar home to victory until he was caught and bowled from Winter's first ball. James Middlebrook joined Simsy at the crease with 30 required from the last 3 overs, but unfortunately it wasnt to be as Ongar finished on 214-6 from their 48 overs, with Simsy 31 no and James 6 no. All in all a very good effort with lots of plus points on the day. For once Ongar's batting didnt lose wickets in clusters and made it passed 200, even without a contribution from Jamie who was feeling unwell and had dropped down the order and they didnt subject their tail order to the worry of having to try and hold on to a draw.

Unfortunately only 6 points were to be had, with Belhus claiming 10, and Ongar now slip down to second bottom with only 2 games to go.
