Match report
So the OGB's found themselves top of the table as they headed off to picturesque West Essex who also won their opening fixture.
The game was delayed by 10 minutes until the rain stopped and Big Dave, having won the toss, duly inserted the hosts. It proved to be only a brief respite as the rain soon returned, differing from steady to torrential for the
next 5 hours! However, despite the atrocious conditions the umpires, for reasons only known to themselves, decided to ensure the game continued unabated, thus ensuring a miserable afternoon was had by all. It surely was the worse case of cricket for points sake in unplayable conditions seen for a very very long time. Judging by the fact there was only about two other completed games anywhere in the county, surely proved to be completely unnecessary.
With regard to the game, West Essex declared on 249-4 off 39 overs, with the Ongar skipper unable to rotate his bowlers due to the near impossibility in holding the ball, both Jamie and The Blakester were forced to bowl long spells. Blake finishing with figures of 3-96 off 20 overs and Jamie 1-90 from 12 overs.
After tea, Ongar were then forced to commence their innings in the rain and compiled a very commendable 183-7 from 46 overs. Stick top scoring with 52, including a second ball 6! Also, good contributions from Nobby(23) and veteran David Powell(28no).
So, Ongar remain unbeaten after 2 games and claimed 4 points to WE's 11 points. Despite such a good effort, which Ongar can be rightly proud, the only real winner on the day was the rain, on a moral sapping day for all involved.
Hopefully, Ongar can put the feeling of negativity that festered all day behind them and move forward to Old Brentwoods and try their best to focus on what has so far been a very promising start result wise.
