Billericay v Ongar Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 21 Jun 2008 at 1.00
Ongar Cricket Club Lost

Match report Ongar's day started badly with the first lost toss in a while. Duly inserted Ongar stuck with the Stock Sweeting partnership at the top with strokemakers Bagga, Sims, Patel & Groves numbers three to six.

As it was it was Mr Sweeting unfurled the first stylish stroke of the afternoon with a vintage cover drive for four. It was a lovely shot and almost as vintage as Sam's Mitre spikes which were straight outta 1992.

Sadly it was the first and last scoring shot of Sam's innings and he was bowled next ball by one that seamed in to breach his defence.

Ongars number one chemist was in next having dragged himself off his sick bed after a nasty bout of food poisoning. Rakesh looked comfortable enough but got a good ball that seamed away from him and got a faint edge to the keeper. It was unfortunate as a lesser player would have got nowhere near it.

Chris Sims was in next and again looked in good touch but the wicket fell at the other end. Tom having done the hard work for a second week running and got himself in promptly got himself out trying to repeat a square drive for four which ended up being nicked to second slip.

This wicket brought Mr Laidback Pinal Patel to the crease. Looking more and more orthdox by the week Pinal increasingly adds steely defence to his natural attacking play. It was Chris out next though getting an inside edge to be bowled.

Jack Groves was in next and got a damn good ball to be bowled second ball. Rishi was in next and for a while it looked like Pinal and Rishi might get Ongar out of the embarassing hole they found themselves in. The highlight of their partnership was an extraordinary one footed hook from Pinal that flew to the boundary as Pinal fell over.

Billericay though had bowlers to spare and were able to take off the openers and replaced them with equally dangerous players. Pinal and Rishi both fell to the steady but naggling persistent Mayhook.

Peter as in at 8 and mixed some attacking shots with his trademark defensive stonewall shot while Jamie Watson played very properly at the other end. Sadly the bowlers were hard to get away and the frustration got to Jamie who was out trying to hit over the top.

Billy was in next and played nicely as Jamie had done but only managed to match Jamie's score of one before he was bowled by Mayhook.

Sensing the end was in sight Peter started to hit out and was caught for 8.
