Ongar Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Presidents XI on Fri 27 Jul 2007 at 11.30
Ongar Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report The President's XI skipper won the toss and elected to bat.

Wishing to re-create the old pairing of Hutch and Will was not possible due to the late arrival of the WSJ. Instead, Josh Attwell was invited to open with G but unfortunately lost his wicket early. This turned out to be the storey of the Presidents' innings as wickets fell as regular as clockwork as the Club side varied their bowling attack.

However, having arrived a little late, WSJ was at the wicket before he knew it and along with the President's skipper for the day, Nigel Shuttleworth, they set about to try and cement an otherwise crumbling innings. Eager to get some runs on the board before the lunch interval, Will called for a quick single as he hit the ball straight to Brad 'Henry the hoover' Stewart who promptly returned the ball to Pam behind the sticks to run the skipper out having faced only one ball.

WSJ tried in vain to hold the President's innings together, but it wasn't to be. Regrettably, the tail didn't wag after lunch and the innings closed on a very miserable 98 all out.

The response from the Ongar XI wasn't much better either as they lost the early wickets of Sukes and Lovey. However, big Dave strode to the crease with determination to brush aside the toils of league cricket and promptly put the Club side in firm control with some very powerful, controlled hitting.

Dave (49) was ably supported by Pam (21no) before he was adjudged to have gloved one down the leg side. With the departure of big Dave, Club captain Dean the bean Mitchell was required to see the Club side home although he wasn't needed to trouble the scorers as Pam scored the winning runs.

Due to the game being fininsh earlier than expected, it was decided to have a Twenty20 match where all players bowled 2 overs each. The Club side batted first on this occasion and set the President's men 112 which they passed with ease with 5 overs to spare, not before the president's skipper was run out again by yes, you've guessed it, WJS!!!

Needless to say, WSJ couldn't apologise enough and agreed to by Nige beers all night long!

So, another enjoyable day was had by all, none more so than the visiting Aussies, Adam Williams, returning for the first time from Tasmania and Tippers, well, we just can't get rid of him! It was nice to see some old faces particularly, Jules and Beacon and their respective ladies.

Finally, a special mention must be made of our fabulous caterer, June Giles who, despite having lost her sister early that morning, she still continued to provide yet another wonderful spread. Not only do we wish to thank June but we also send her our sincere condolences.
