Match report Ongar played host to Benfleet hoping to avenge their opening day defeat.

Big Dave won the toss and invited Benfleet first use of a much improved Ongar track. Ongar failed to make an early breakthrough, despite good opening spells
from both Rakesh and Madcock. However the introduction of Brad proved vital, as he snapped up 3 wickets in quick succession, including a glorious diving catch from Stick in the gully (only a pity that Joanna was in the kitchen, as its not likely to happen again in a hurry!!) Benfleet's own aussie import was not to be out performed however, making a very good 65 in only 88 balls to keep Benfleet on top. He was assisted by Scott (43 in 53 balls) enabling Benfleet to declare on 243-8 after 52 overs. It was a really good performance with the ball, just a shame that some exceptional bowling figures were slightly ruined in the last few overs of the innings. The pick easily being Brad (5-55) his first 5 wicket haul for the 1's. Well done Brad we knew you had it in you.Sid bowled beautifully at times, but again suffered towards the end, finishing with (1-53). Danny Shutts, chipping in with an excellent (2-29) from his 5 overs, the other wicket takers.

After tea, and a very fine spread it was too (thanks Joanna!) Ongar once again proved that they have simply forgotten how to bat. Claudio Dave (5) and Lovey (1) were first to go, (both would admit, not to the best of shots). 13-2 was soon to became 25-3 as Stick (5) was allegedly caught behind. Ross Doobers (15) battled hard before being bowled, but the only one to show any sort of form was veteran campaigner Steve Adders, who in a hurry to get to a party and chuck some beer down his throat, quickly set about dispatching the Benfleet attack, cracking a quick fire 40 in 50 balls, before he became victim no 2, - allegedly caught behind. Victory at this point was well beyond Ongar, but thanks to Mick Ayres (20) a draw looked firmly in Ongars sights, until, yep you've guessed it, trapped LBW off his bat! That just left time for a quickfire (19 off 20 balls) from Madcock and 12 off 20 balls from Dan Shutts, before Ongar were mopped up for 132 with only 19 balls remaining. However, Ongar finally achieved their first batting point of the season. Hurrah! Man of the match must go to Benfleet aussie Hancock, who followed up his fine batting display, with 5-34 off his 14.5 overs.

So, that leaves Ongar firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, having still lost every game that they have played so far this season, and a trip to promotion chasing Old Southendians to look forward to next week.
