Match report
Ongar travelled the short distance down the A128 to the home of Old Brentwoods, in what was already seen by manyas a genuine 36 pointer! With both teams having failed to get of the mark in their previous two games.
Ongar skipper Big Dave, finally won a toss and despite the usual excellent conditions of the Old Boys facilities, he optedto take the field, feeling that his side may not be upto posting a decent total after the scores of 86 and 115 so far this season.
In cold and blustery conditions the Ongar bowlers slowly began to take the upperhand, with wickets falling at fairly regular intervals, once again supported by some good fielding, in particular two stunning catches, by Tom Stuck (and it certainly did!) at square who caught a screamer two handed diving away to his right, and Lovey at first slip, the second of his, would be hard to be beaten anywhere all season, diving low down to his right and producing a fantastic one handed pick up, just millimeters off the ground. The Old Boys were reduced to 156-8 but Ongar were unable to finish the job off thanks to superb 46 n.o. by Selby and a fighting 8 by number 11 Cant (who certainly proved he could!) The Old Boys were able to get to 215 before, finally Cant, couldnt! And was trapped LBW by Sam Adders. The pick of the Ongar attack was easily the aussie Bradders, who finally picked up his first wickets of the season, finishing a fine afternoons work with figures of 20 ov. 4 mdns, 4-54, able assisted by Maddog(2-55), Sam Adders(2-40) and Madcock(2-43).
After tea Ongar were soon deep in trouble at 13-5, but thanks to Pam Ayers(24), Nobbler(16), Sam Adders(22) and Extras(20), were able to at least scramble past Eppings score of 24 from the previous week. But, once again they were unable to secure even one batting point from the season so far, being bowled out, in the dark and rain, for a paltry 95.
A very disappoing result, with last seasons wooden spoon holders Old Brentwoods, running out more than comfortable
winners on the days.
