Match report It was very much a case of deja vu as Ongar started their 2007 league season with an opening fixture away in picturesque Benfleet. As per usual, if was blowing a gale and freezing cold, and as per usual Ongars fate was pretty much sealed as soon as skipper Big Dave had lost the toss and Ongar were duly inserted in time honoured fashion on a green, wet one!

Ongar's fears were soon realised as the Benfleet attack ripped into Ongars batting. With the new ball doing 'allsorts' early doors, Ongar never looked comfortable, and wickets fell at regular intervals, with only Rakesh (26) on debut and Lovey (17) making it into double figures. With a little help from Mr Extras (26). Ongar were still only able to post a score of 86, after being bowled out after only 34 overs. Credit must be given to the Benfleet bowlers who were able to take full advantage of the helpful conditions and in truth some helpful batting!

After tea and a small break for rain, batting was suddenly made to look ridiculously easy by the Benfleet openers, in particular Scott (62 no) as they battered the Ongar attack to all parts, racing to a very comfortable win by 9 wickets
after only 14.2 overs. Sam Adcock, easily the pick of the Ongar bowlers, with figures of 1-7 of 2.2 overs.

A mixed day for the two debutants, with Brad unable to make any breakthrough with the ball, plus a Golden Duck! to Rakesh, who, in truth was the only positive from a very disappointing day.

Special thanks to Big Dave for his hard work off the field, not only in securing a three year sponsorship deal with Thurrock Car and Van Rental, but also providing the boys, with tracksuits and 'whites' all emblazened with the new sponsors logo. Its fair to say that we must have been the best looking team anywhere in the league, its only a shame that, on the day, we didnt get to wear them for a little while longer!!
