Match report Ongar entertained Harold Wood in their first home fixture of the 2005 season. Ongar won the toss and invited
Wood to bat. In extremely blustery conditions Ongar’s opening attack of Porky and Deano did a good job in
containing the Wood openers, however with Ongar lacking any real penetration Wood were able to declare on a
more than useful 255-7 off 52 overs.
In reply Ongar’s batsman were treated to a fine exhibition of fast bowling from Hafeez who finished with figures of
5-6 and then by Bonner who also finished with figures of 5-6. Its probably fair to say that if the Wood skipper
hadn’t taken the strange decision of bowling 12 overs of mediocre off spin from the Castle End, prior to
introducing Bonner, Ongar may have struggled to make double figures!!
Perhaps the only positive to be taken from a wretched afternoon was the form of Sam Adcock, who after his
introduction to first XI cricket the week before at Buckhurst Hill looks more than capable of performing at this level
with both bat and ball.
