Match report The Ongar 1st XI played their second successive away match of the new season at Buckhurst Hill, determined to
put up a better showing after the 9-man debacle of the previous week at Southend On Sea. Big Dave, Sam
Adcock, Deano and Nobbler all making their first appearances of the season, with Mick Ayres and Steve Adcock
both N/A this week.
On another cold and blustery day, Buckhurst Hill were invited to bat, once the umpires and decided which wicket
that they were going to put the stumps in! B. H found the going tough against some excellent bowling by Deano
and Porky, special praise to Porky who bowled 11 overs straight off, up hill against the wind. He must be more
aerodynamic than he looks! Also Deano despite being well into his 41st year, who bowled a superb spell of 22
overs! Hope Karen helped to get him up the next morning. The wickets were nicely spread around with wickets for
all the Ongar bowlers. BH unbelievably continued to bat on after they had reached 200, despite there being a 30
minute break due to heavy rain, closing their innings on 221-8.
Ongar’s batsman were left with the unrealistic task of trying to get 222 off only 39 overs, which in truth was never
going to be on. They eventually finished their reply on 118-2 for two with the impressive Steve Reynolds, once
again finishing up as top scorer with 35. All in all a much improved performance from that of the week before,
hopefully Ongar can continue in the same vain next week, when they play their first home game of the season
against Harold Wood.
