11 Jun 2012 : Ongar win at Old Chelmsford
Ongar crawl to win at Old Chelmsfords
After losses at home to Rayne and away to Little Baddow, Ongar were keen to get back to winning ways as they visited Old Chelmsfordians for the first time.

Peter won the toss and with grey skies overhead and drizzle in the air elected to bowl first.  It seemed a easy decision and the decision was vindicated as Rob Fisher bowled with a decent pace and control while Peter bowled as tighly as ever from the other end.  Rob made the breakthrough by inducing the opener back on to his own stumps to be out hit wicket.  This wicket was followed up with a catch behind by Asim and then another unusual dismissal off Rob as Asim completed his third stumping of the season.

Peter took himself off to be replaced by the miserly Mick Ayres, while shortly after Majid Kahn replaced Rob, whose 3-17 was his best return in Ongar colours. Mick bowled his standard tight lines and turned the screw as he had at Willow Herbs and against Rayne in weeks gone by.  This pressure told and the wickets continued to fall, with Mick bowling a couple, and taking a catch himself to finish with 4-12.  Majid chipped in from the other end with a wicket himself.

As Mick completed his alloted overs it was time for an enforced change with young Smith Patel making his bowling debut with Old Chelmsfords 8 down.  Smithy finished things off in just 2.4 overs bowling the last two batsmen to end with 2-5 from his truncated spell.

Chasing 89 from a maximum of 48 overs Ongar felt confident despite the losses chasing in the previous two games.

Waseem and Samuel Sweeting got things off to a steady start but Chelmsford have the quickest and most accurate opening bowler we've faced to date in the league and his ability to put the ball consistently on off & middle stump was starting to create pressure.  Having  survived a couple of LBW shouts Waseem's luck deserted him on the third occaision and he was pinned back in his crease and out LBW for 8.

Tom came to the crease having made starts in his previous two games and he and Sam carried on steadily and watchfully against the accurate opener while picking off ones and twos against the other opener.

Having seen off the opening bowler disaster struck as Tom pushed the ball towards mid wicket, and Sam, quick though he is for a big man was unable to ground his bat and was run out by a direct hit.  Asim was in next and immediately looked busy at the crease but having made 7 was caught behind.  At this time Ongar were 54-3 and Tom was still there and joined by the dependable Micky Ayres.

From here on the march to victory should have been  serene but having added a few more Tom missed one that straightened and fell for 18.  Imran came to the crease but fell in a similar way to Tom and Ongar were 5 down for 67.  Smithy came to the crease for the first time this season and in his shot making style went for it from the off, striking 5 off his first two balls

With Mick at the other end providing a steady experienced hand and Smithy's youthful fearless shot making Ongar had stumbled accross the formula to get them across the line  and they did so for no further loss with Mick ending unbeaten on 17 and Smith unbeaten on 8.

Ongars miserly bowling performance set up the win and having bowled Chelmsford out for less than 100 provided maximum bowling bonus points.  All in all a very satisfying result

20 May 2012 : T Rippon debut
Season underway (at last!)

After two weeks of rain abandonments the club finally made its debut in the T Rippon league division 4 against Willow Herbs at their home ground in Blackmore.

Skipper Peter lost the toss and Ongar were inserted.  After all the rain of recent weeks its not surprising that the pitch and outfield were slow.  Ongar scored 134-7 off 45 overs with Tom Stock top scoring with 30 and  Waseem Hanif 23.

In reply Willow Herbs were bowled out for 80 off 32 overs.  Majid Kahn was the star with the ball taking 5-27 including a stunning return catch to finish the innings.  Special mention must be made of Micky Ayres who returned the extraordinary bowling figures of 11 overs, 8 runs 3 wickets.

Ongar picked up 21 points for the win and find themselves on 26 points so far.  Full league results and tables are on the T Rippon website http://www.tripponcricket.com/table.aspx

We'll have more results and league table updates in the coming weeks on this website and our Twitter feed (where we'll also have live updates, photos and more).

08 May 2012 : Wat-er a wash out!
Sadly and unsurprisingly our first game of the new league season was called off the night before due to soggy conditions at Sandon, our opponents for the day.

With so much wet weather around its hardly surprising that only one game was attempted and completed in division 4 with Willow Herbs picking up 22 points.

The forecast looks slightly better for the coming week but Love Lane is currently very wet so fingers crossed we get enough sun to dry it out in time for our first home game on the 12th...

Stick with it guys - it will be the cricket season at some point before the end of May!!
